During the VE2000 workshop at the Poynter Institute for media studies the first underwater D1 digital image was made.

story by Brad Smith

Kevin Clark, a photographer for the Sun-Sentinel in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., dove into the assignment using a Nikon D1 in an Ewa Marine watertight bag. Clark said he had problems at first while swimming in the shallows of Weeki Wachee Springs Waterpark, but quickly gained a handle on how to use the camera succesfully. In the end, Clark came back with over 100 images, an appreciation for the difficulty of underwater photography, and an absolutely dry Nikon D1.

After succesfully taking pictures with a Nikon D1 with a watertight Ewa Marine bag, Kevin Clark packs up his gear for the trip back to Poynter. Clark said, "the first time was kinda weird," but once he was used to the bag the system worked well.
